Self Care in 2020

2020 has been a year for the books. Not only have the months flown by so quickly, it has been a stress, anxiety, worry, and panic filled year. The coronavirus pandemic has impacted every aspect of our lives -- the social, mental, physical, and emotional aspect. It has been a difficult year all around and while it is hard I try to find small moments of joy to make the days go by better.

As humans, most of us thrive better with social interaction and when we have a routine and schedule of our lives. So it makes sense for us to feel so lost with everyone going on in the world. And now as we approach the end of this crazy year, it all just feels like a blur. This year has taught me that *a lot* of things in my life are not in my control. But I do know that my physical and mental health is. I have been making an honest effort to practice more self care and make it a regular in my routine.

One of my favorite ways of unwinding and practicing self care in the safety of my home is taking a relaxing bath. Now that may sound like a routine for some of you but I think there is a lot of healing power in water. Taking baths are known to improve immunity and reduce blood pressure.

My idea of a relaxing bath consists of a lot of candles, a hot cup of coffee, and my favorite book or show to watch. I want to share some of my bath essentials that elevate my bath and make me feel like I’m at the spa.

Getting a bath tray has been a life changer for me! I don’t have a huge bathtub and this bamboo tray makes it so easy to have all my essentials with me. It has a nefty slot to hold your phone, iPad, or book so you can enjoy it in the bath without the fear of getting it wet. I love that the tray also has a compartment to hold mugs or glasses and just a lot of extra space to hold my masks and scrubs. The tray comes in a few colors and you can purchase it here.

To further my experience of pretending like I’m in a spa is putting on a face mask and lighting as many candles as I can find. One of my all time favorite masks is the Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay. It is a deep pore cleansing mask and instantly brightens and tightens your skin. I love using this mask once a week.

While the face mask dries, I like to use an exfoliating scrub for my body. The Body Shop British Rose Gel Body Scrub is one of my go-to exfoliators. It's textures with real rose petals and it leaves your skin smooth and polished.

You can’t have a bath without some bubbles and I love using Lush bubble bars and bath bombs. One of my favorite one is the Lush Rose Jam Bubbleroon and not only does it smell amazing, it has organic cocoa butter which hydrates and moisturizes your skin. It also makes the bath a pretty pink color, what’s not to love?!

I also love adding in epsom salt into my bath as it has endless benefits. I use the Tree Hut

Shea Moisturizing Epsom Salt in the tropical mango scent. Epsom salt is great to reduce body soreness and stress in your body. It also helps to soften and relax your muscles.

Lastly, to make this bath experience even better, I love brewing a fresh cup of coffee and reading my favorite book. It’s so important to enjoy these small moments in our day. As we all have been reminded by this year, life is short so spend it making yourself happy.

I hope you enjoyed reading about my bath essentials, I’d love to hear your favorite ways to self-care and if you try out any of my favorites!
