I can’t believe Ramadan is less than a month away! For those of you who are not aware, Ramadan is the 9th month of the Muslim lunar calender and is considered to be a blessed month. Ramadan begins when the moon is sighted and it is expected to begin around April 12th or 13th this year. Muslims all over the world observe this month by fasting from sunrise to sunset, praying, and becoming closer to God. It’s a month of self reflection, sacrifice, and personal growth. And to mark the end of the month-long fasting, Muslims celebrate in a 3-day holiday called Eid-ul-Fitr. It's a spiritual and special time for Muslims around the globe.
Last Ramadan was a time of uncertainty and anxiety due to the start of the pandemic. We all were forced to celebrate this blessed month in lockdown without going to the masjid, away from our family and friends, missing iftar parties, and celebrating Eid without our loved ones. A lot has happened since last year, both good and bad, and I’m happy to see the world slowly returning to normalcy.
Ramadan brings a lot of excitement but also a busy schedule, especially for those who are in school or working full time. One of my Ramadan goals for this year is to plan ahead and prepare foods, pack gifts, and shop in advance so I can really focus on strengthening my faith during the month. I began shopping for decor and gifts a week ago and while I know there are so many businesses that make personalized beautiful decor for Ramadan and Eid, I was confused on where to start.
